Hear that? That’s the sound of wedding bells ringing in Canada, as two of its most polarizing imports have decided to go ahead and get engaged! That’s right, Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger (of the band Nickelback) are super in love and ready to walk down the aisle together.
The news was broken on Twitter in a message from Nickelback’s official account. This was later retweeted by Avril herself, and confirmed to Hollywood.com by a rep for Lavigne. The couple met six month ago when Kroeger, 37, and Lavigne, 27, got together to pen some new tunes for Avril’s upcoming album. From that moment on the two began quietly dating and when the heart-shaped maple leaves started flying out of their eyes, they knew it was true, Canadian love. So he put a ring on it! And what a ring it supposedly is! According to People, Kroeger popped the question with a 14-carat diamond boulder ring. Guess that’s why she went with a rockstar instead of a Sk8r Boi, since we all know that profession makes decidedly less money.

This will be the second marriage for Lavigne (who was previously married to Sum41 (Remember them?) lead singer Derrick Whibley) and the first for Kroeger. Which is shocking, really. It’s crazy to think we live in a world where the combination of Kroeger’s dulcet tones and Nickelback’s riveting musical arrangements don’t sweep every lady in the world right off their feet and directly into his arms. It’s like a magnet. Or a forcefield. Or, you know, uh, something.
OK, so maybe the Mayans were right after all.
