Awkwafina made history at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night (January 5, 2020) by becoming the first actress of Asian-American descent to win an award in the Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category.
The actress took home the prize for her role in Lulu Wang’s The Farewell and, reflecting on the backstage, the Crazy Rich Asians star soaked up the moment, revealing she had no idea she was making history.
“I actually heard that fact and it was pretty mind-blowing,” she said. “It feels incredible… but you want there to be more. I hope this is only the beginning.”
