Baldwin rallies for radio

The 30 Rock star is backing a community effort in star-studded Southampton to purchase National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate WLIU-FM from Long Island University.

University officials, who sold the Southampton College campus in 2006, say there is no longer funding to subsidise the station – after 46 years of broadcasting.

Radio bosses announced in August (09) the station had sustained annual losses of about $1 million (£666,670) before putting it up for auction.

Baldwin is working with organisers on a competitive bid for the station, which is due to be sold off on Wednesday (23Sep09).
