Barbara Bush chooses ‘comfort care’ over medication as she continues health battle

America’s former first lady Barbara Bush has refused additional medical treatment as she fights for life with a nagging illness.
Bush’s spokesman has confirmed the 92-year-old is “in failing health” but is now focused on “comfort care” above medication.
“Following a recent series of hospitalisations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will instead focus on comfort care,” spokesman Jim McGrath says in a press release.
Bush has been battling thyroid condition Graves’ disease for years and underwent heart surgery in 2009.
As the wife of George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States, she served as the 37th First Lady of the United States from 1989 to 1993.
