We knew this day was well on its way, but now several reliable sources are confirming that Beyoncé and Jay-Z are now officially parents! According to various outlets, including Good Morning America, E! Online, Us Weekly, and People (just to name a few), the singer gave birth to a baby girl in New York on Saturday night via C-Section. Even her hometown paper, the Houston Chronicle, covered the exciting news and claims that “baby and mom are doing just fine.”
So, what’s the name of the most anticipated child ever? Sources tell E! News the little girl’s name is Blue Ivy Carter. A surprising name choice to say the least, but GMA reports that the couple chose “Ivy” because of the significance of the number “4” or “IV,” — Beyoncé and Jay-Z were born on Sept. 4 and Dec. 4, and were married on April 4, 2008. And let’s not forget the name of Beyoncé’s latest album title…4. (Apparently naming your child after a number is a big Hollywood trend these days). An explanation as to the reasoning behind the “Blue” part of the name has yet to be revealed.
And in case you needed even further proof that this birth is the real deal and not just another trick from the rumor mill, several celebs have already tweeted about the couple’s little bundle of joy. Rihanna tweeted last night, “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih,” while Gwyneth Paltrow wrote on her Twitter page this morning, “Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already.” Beyoncé’s sister, Solange, also tweeted her excitement, writing that the baby is “the most beautiful girl in the world.” I’d say the evidence is pretty compelling.
Seriously, we should just consider ourselves lucky to know as much as we know already, considering Blue’s parents didn’t even confirm to the world that they were married until…well never. Unless you count Beyoncé’s I Was Here music video, which came out late last year and showed the singer in her wedding dress. So yeah, they like to keep things hush hush. But either way, 2012 is already looking to be a year full of big happenings.
Congratulations to the happy couple and welcome to the joys of parenthood!
