U-God blasts RZA for Wu-Tang Clan mismanagement

Rap veteran U-God has accused his Wu-Tang Clan bandmate Rza of poor leadership in a stinging attack for his new memoir.
RZA has long served as the leader of the Gravel Pit hitmakers, but the hip-hop collective appears to have fractured in recent years, with U-God filing suit against his old friend in 2017 over allegations of unpaid royalties and other group fees.
Now, the disgruntled MC, real name Lamont Jody Hawkins, has opened up about the divisions in the band in his autobiography, RAW: My Journey Into the Wu-Tang, in which he blames RZA for failing to capitalise on the group’s early success in the 1990s and accuses him of doing little to cement its legacy.
“Right now, it just looks like the Wu brothers are not on the same page, going at each other’s throats, missing shows, and all that. But, to me, it’s really years of BS catching up to RZA,” reads an excerpt published on RollingStone.com.
“Things started changing little by little, guys got fed up, and eventually, we all got individual managers to negotiate and serve as a buffer from all the bulls**t. It was no longer one for all and all for one.”
U-God goes on to question some of the decisions RZA has made over the years on behalf of the crew, which also features Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Method Man, and GZA, among others, suggesting he’s been prioritising his own career instead of helping to take care of the band as a whole.
“In 25 years of being in the business, RZA has never placed the group at an A-list (talent) agency. I wonder why,” he writes. “Just talking about this s**t frustrates me. I mean here we are, the Rolling Stones of hip-hop, and we ain’t even got proper representation. Meanwhile, RZA’s always had A-list agents repping (sic) him personally. What the f**k is that all about?”
RZA has yet to respond to U-God’s memoir complaints.
