Bono agrees to break U2 ‘sacred pledge’ and play golf with a fan

Bono and his U2 bandmates have broken a pledge not to play golf in an effort to raise money for the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The rockers have offered fans the chance to play a round of mini-golf with them among the celebrity experiences that are being raffled off at Omaze.com/RED as a part of the (RED) Shopathon campaign for World AIDS Day on 1 December (17), and the One singer reveals the hot item is a real test for the group.
“U2 made a pledge early on, as teenagers actually, when we formed the band that the one thing we would never ever do – and it was a sacred pledge – was to play golf,” Bono told The Associated Press recently. “We didn’t think it was rock ‘n’ roll.”
Other items being raffled off include the chance to work out with Charlize Theron and attend a movie premiere with Reese Witherspoon.
Bono will also be a big part of the televised (RED) Shopathon charity special, which will air in the U.S. on Tuesday night (28Nov17), during Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Others taking part include Kristen Bell, Ashton Kutcher, DJ Khaled, and actress Rita Wilson.
Formed by Bono and Bobby Shriver, (RED) has raised $500 million (GBP376 million) in the last 11 years to provide testing, prevention, treatment, counselling and care services in eight sub-Saharan African countries.
