Britney Spears Does Not Remember Her First VMAs Performance (But We Do!)

It’s looking like Britney Spears doesn’t have a very good memory. First, she had no idea she ever met Taylor Swift. Now, she can’t even remember her first performance at the VMAs — how could you forget something like that?

In an interview with Elvis Duran and the Z Morning Zoo, Brit-Brit admitted that she has no recollection of her first MTV VMAs performance in 1999.

“I think I was with ’NSync when I performed for the first time,” she said. “I think the whole setup was a classroom, and my four main dancers were in the front at their desk and I came out of my locker. But, you know what, I don’t remember at all. I have no recollection. I couldn’t tell you anything about it.”

Spears has had a lot of VMA performances (remember that controversial kiss with Madonna?), but you’d think she’d remember the first time she ever took the stage. Somehow, even though it was 17 years ago, we definitely remember her debut. It was iconic.

Spears got it right when she spoke to Elvis Duran. She did perform with ‘NSync, and we can picture it like it was yesterday. Her shiny two-piece was everything. Spears sang her hit “…Baby One More Time” before the ‘NSync boys (Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick) took the stage for a rendition of their song “Tearin’ Up My Heart.”

Britney’s first VMA performance was so ’99 it hurts. Everything about it is so nostalgic (and so incredibly dated, but in a good way). Remember what the VMAs were like before Miley Cyrus was twerking all over Robin Thicke and Kanye was stealing the mic? It was much simpler times.

Check out Britney’s performance below, and girl, if you’re reading this, we hope it refreshes your memory.
