Carlos Gomez acts primarily in medical and crime dramas and in thrillers, both on television and in films. One of his earlier roles was in "ER," as a homosexual paramedic who later in the series is burned in a fire and dies. The same year, he co-starred with Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, and Joaquim de Almeida in the Western thriller "Desperado," playing the right-hand man of Banderas's assassin character. A few years later, Gomez would collaborate again with Hayek, though in a much smaller part, as her ex-boyfriend in the romantic comedy "Fools Rush In." In the drama based on the novel "House of Sand and Fog," starring Jennifer Connelly as a troubled woman struggling to keep her home, Gomez plays a by-the-book lieutenant who puts the deputy sheriff in prison for sympathizing with and lusting after Connelly's character. Two of Gomez's notable television series later in his career include the legal drama "Shark," starring James Woods, and the police procedural drama "The Glades." In "Shark," Gomez plays the mayor of Los Angeles, and in "The Glades," he is Dr. Carlos Sanchez, a forensic pathologist for Florida's law enforcement department who works and is friends with the main character of the show, Detective Longworth. The characters sometimes butt heads in their clashing personalities; Longworth is more intuitive than Sanchez, but stubborn. However, Sanchez goes to great lengths to stick up for and back up his friend.
