Cary Fukunaga and David Lowery adapting Explorers for TV

Filmmakers Cary Fukunaga and David Lowery are joining forces to reimagine classic sci-fi movie Explorers as a new TV show.
The 1985 coming-of-age fantasy film starred a young Ethan Hawke as a sci-fi obsessed boy who recruits his friends to turn a dream about a high-tech spacecraft into a reality.
Late actor River Phoenix also featured in director Joe Dante’s movie, and now Cary and David are hoping to revive the idea for a new generation of fans.
They will write the script for a pilot, which one of them will direct for Paramount Television executives, reports Deadline.com.
Both Fukunaga and Lowery will also serve as executive producers for the project, alongside a team which includes the original movie’s screenwriter, Erik Luke.
It’s an exciting time in Fukunaga’s career – in September (18), the Beasts of No Nation moviemaker was announced as the new director for Bond 25, following the surprise exit of Danny Boyle.
He becomes the first American to take charge of a film in the James Bond franchise, and will begin production with Daniel Craig reprising his role as the British superspy in March (19), ahead of a February, 2020 release.
