Biography

While producer Cathy Schulman may have seen her share of ups and downs, nothing compared to winning an Academy Award for Best Picture for the probing race drama, "Crash" (2005). Prior to her Oscar win, Schulman had largely seen the downside of showbiz, most notably a nasty and often personal lawsuit with former boss, Michael Ovitz. Her award win seemed to erase years of frustration, despite her announcement only days after the ceremony that she was flat broke following years of litigation and arbitration. But it wasn't luck that won her an Oscar - Schulman had proven single-handedly that, with equal parts passion and ambition, one can prevail despite overwhelming odds.
