Celeb Speak: Anna Paquin Talks Bisexuality

anna paquinAnna Paquin has never been one to hide from a fight (she’s a lot like Sookie in that way).  We’ve seen her take on vampires, werewolves, and — if you watched the most recent episode of True Blood (spoiler alert!) — even faeries shouldn’t mess with her.  But this True Blood star isn’t just outspoken about vampire rights. She also stands up for what she believes in — including her sexual preferences.  In 2010 Paquin came partially out of the closet when she confessed to the world that she was bisexual while engaged to her now-husband, Stephen Moyer.  This news was a huge shock to everyone since you don’t hear many confessions from the bisexual community, but this could be what gets the ball rolling.  Not only has this actress made Moyer the happiest and — on behalf of all straight men — the luckiest guy in the world, but she’s also made herself a great role model for the bisexual community.  Paquin is completely comfortable with her sexuality (like we couldn’t tell that from all those sex scenes), but she knows there’s an awful lot of prejudice towards bisexuals and that’s something she’s hoping to change.

During a recent interview with V Magazine (on stands July 7th), Paquin proudly states, “My sexuality is something I’m completely comfortable with and open about. There’s a lot of prejudice toward us but the more people talk about it, the less of a big deal it will be. And that will be better for everyone.”

While she hasn’t had any girl-on-girl sex scenes on True Blood (she’s too busy with her love-lust triangle with Bill and Eric) it’s certainly clear that Mrs. Moyer has never looked or felt better.  When asked if it’s ever awkward having to do a sex scene with her hunky husband she replies, “Maybe it should be weird, simulating sex with your husband in front of people, but it’s really not. When it’s a love scene with someone you actually love, there’s no feeling like, ‘Can I touch him here, can I touch him there?’ You know what your boundaries are—or what they aren’t, I suppose.”

Either way, whether you’re partial to males, females, or both, Paquin proves that as long as you’re comfortable with yourself then everything else will fall into place.  I think that’s an idea everyone can sink their teeth into.
