Celeste Holm, Oscar-Winning Actress, Dies at 95

Celeste HolmCeleste Holm, Oscar-winning screen and stage actress, has passed away in New York. She was 95 years old. Before carving out an impressive career in film in the 40s and 50s–including her Best Supporting Actress run in Gentleman’s Agreement in 1947–Holm originated the role of Ado Annie in the iconic musical Oklahoma!.

Throughout the 40s and 50s, Holm managed to nab notable roles in All About Eve (starring Bette Davis), as well as a turn as the photographer girlfriend of Frank Sinatra‘s character in the musical High Society. Additionally, she had a very active TV career, including a pilot called The Celeste Holm Show. She last appeared on television in the CBS television series Promised Land back in the early nineties.

She is survived by husband Frank Basile and her two sons.
