Chloe Sevigny & More Defend Jennifer Lawrence’s Weight In ‘Hunger Games’

ALTEver since The New York Times insinuated that Jennifer Lawrence‘s body is too big for her role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, Lawrence’s curves have been a hot topic of debate. Well, despite what the March 22 review says, a few familiar faces in Hollywood, like actress Chloë Sevigny and celebrity style expert Robert Verdi, tell Hollywood.com that they find Lawrence’s body incredibly appealing on and off-screen.

“I went to the premiere,” Verdi said to us at the 2012 Jeffrey Fashion Cares Fundraiser at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum in NYC on March 26. “She’s got a beautiful body. I like seeing it. I think it looks good in clothes. She’s really tall and incredibly talented, so fashion loves her.”
Lawrence’s body made sense for her Games role. “I like her,” Verdi explained. “I would argue that if they’re working folks, they’re going to be a little bit more robust and beefy. I think [you] can actually be working class and be stocky.”
Though Sevigny has yet to see the movie, she also agrees that Lawrence has a great body. “I think she’s a beautiful girl,” she admitted to us. “As far as her weight is concerned outside of that project and if she’s right for the character, I think she’s a great role model for girls. She’s very healthy, all-American. She looks like a volleyball player.”
And even models defend Lawrence. “She looks very slim,” Jessica Stam shared. “I think that’s really stupid of people to say that. I think that critics saying something like that is only going to escalate girls’ body issues.”
“She’s a really gorgeous girl,” Sports Illustrated beauty Anne Vyalitsyna agreed. “From what I’ve heard, she trained so hard for this thing. It doesn’t matter what people think. She’s such a confident girl in general [and] that kind of shows on the screen and it inspires people. She’s sending a really great message. At the end of the day, she’s not big at all, so I don’t know what people are talking about. She’s playing a role that’s very fit. I don’t think she needs to look anorexic. She looks like a normal girl. It’s so great to actually see an actress who has an amazing body.”
And Russian model Irina Shayk made a very valid point. “Men don’t like bones,” she said. “She’s just so hot and sexy. I think all of the men were dying over her.”
What do you think — is Lawrence’s body appropriate for the role of Katniss?
