Chrissy Lampkin and Jim Jones have always had their relationship in the spotlight. It’s hard not to since Jones is a world renowned rapper known for his hits like “We Fly High” and “Stuntin’ Is A Habit” Both Lampkin and Jones starred in VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop and had their own spin-off reality show Chrissy & Mr. Jones. When the show ended back in 2013, they took a break from the public eye, but guess what? They’re back and stronger than ever. In fact, they’re so strong that Jim Jones is ready to give Chrissy the wedding of her dreams. Their new show, Jim & Chrissy: Vow or Never will premiere this Thursday on WeTV. Ahead of the premiere, Hollywood.com sat down with the couple to talk about what’s about to unfold.
I’m really excited to be talking with you and even more excited for your show to come out! To start off I’m wondering how would you describe your love story? How did you two meet?
Chrissy Lampkin: He was sweatin’ me! We actually met in Miami. Even though we’re both from Harlem, we met in Miami.
And since then you’ve been together for over 10 years, which is definitely an accomplishment! What have you learned about relationships?
CL: Patience and acceptance.
What’s the best relationship advice you’ve ever been given?
CL: To allow him to move at his own pace.
Jim, what made you decide to want your wedding on TV for everyone to see?
Jim Jones: We’ve been on television all this time, so I figured we might as well finish it this way and complete the package.
Definitely and Chrissy, what was your first thought when he told you that he wanted to have it live?
CL: That he didn’t really grasp how much work would go into a live wedding. I thought he was just talking and didn’t realize how much work has to go into this.
And how do you feel now?
CL: Same way I felt then! It’s just too much pressure.
Definitely! I mean, having all of these eyes on you! Can you describe your fantasy wedding in just three words?
CL: Regal. Amazing. Romantic.
Great! And what are you most excited for everyone to see about your show?
CL: I want them to see all of the facets of who we are and not just in survival mode and defending yourself. I don’t want to be the angry person all the time—even though you’ll catch moments of this in the show—but, I just felt like it’s just us. If we are going through something, it’s because of us and not because someone else is stirring the pot.
Right, I agree. And I’m personally from Miami, so I have to know what’s your favorite thing about Miami?
CL: The feeling when you get there, the opulence and the beauty and being able to look at the ocean, sit on the beach and get your thoughts together. I just really like the air when I step off the airplane in Miami.
It definitely gets extremely hot, though! But, finally, are you working on any new projects?
CL: I’m still working on this relationship!
