Best known for his off-camera role as the emotionally beleaguered son of the late screen legend Marlon Brando, Christian Brando made occasional acting appearances in movies over the course of several decades, under his given name and the pseudonym of Gary Brown. His credits included the 1968 I Love You, Alice B. Toklas and the 1989 La Posta in Gioco. Brando drew greater attention, however (and widespread notoriety) for his intense and ongoing problems with the law, particularly a 1990 case in which he was charged with manslaughter for allegedly shooting his sister Cheyenne's lover, Dag Drollet, to death on the Brando estate. Christian received a sentence for five years in prison; Cheyenne committed suicide in 1995. In a later incident (in 2005), Brando's former wife, Deborah, sued him on charges of domestic violence, asserting that he frequently beat her and threatened her life. Christian Brando died of pneumonia in early 2008 at age 49, three and a half years after Marlon's death.
