Clark Gregg and Djimon Hounsou join Captain Marvel cast

Clark Gregg and Djimon Hounsou have joined superhero film Captain Marvel to round out the cast as filming gets underway in Los Angeles.
Gregg will reprise his role as Agent Phil Coulson, who was supposedly killed in 2012’s The Avengers, while Hounsou will return as his Guardians of the Galaxy character Korath the Pursuer. Lee Pace has also joined the movie as his Guardians of the Galaxy character Ronan the Accuser, who died in the 2014 superhero film, but Captain Marvel will take place in the 1990s – before their deaths.
Oscar winner Brie Larson will star as Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien in an accident and subsequently acquires superpowers.
Production on the film started on Monday (26Mar18) in Los Angeles and in a behind-the-scenes picture from the set, Larson is photographed alongside Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt, 57th Wing Commander, who she shadowed at the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.
The movie will also shoot in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana and will feature Jude Law as Walter Lawson (aka Mar-Vell) and Samuel L. Jackson, who will return as his regular Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) character Nick Fury. The new film will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and it is set for release next year (19).
Meanwhile, Brie has previously spoken about her desire to play powerful parts and she hopes to do this particular character justice when it comes to inspiring other women.
“I feel a great responsibility,” she told The Sunday Times last year. “I want to create this symbol of strength and humour for women that I really wish I had had growing up. It feels so valuable.”
