Was initially named Pectoralz and Starfish before settling on Coldplay at the suggestion of fellow University College London student Tim Crompton, who was using the name for his own band.

Prior to recording their first LP, Will Champion was briefly fired from the band, prompting Martin to go on a guilt-fueled alcoholic binge. After bringing Champion back into the fold, the band agreed to make decisions as a democracy, and to remove any member who used hard drugs.

Martin's friend, Phil Harvey, serves as their manager and is the "fifth member" of the group.

Parachutes earned the band a Mercury Prize nomination in 2000.

Released a satiric music video as the Nappies.

"Viva La Vida" was named Song of the Year by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) in  2009.

Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley was asked to join the band in 1997, but turned it down to keep Keane active.
