We’re sure you’re very aware who teen-heartthrob Colton Haynes is by now. From his breakout role on MTV‘s Teen Wolf to his role as the hooded vigilante Arsenal on The CW‘s Arrow, he’s been lighting up our television screens for some time now. Therefore, many fans were shocked when the dimpled babe stepped away from the spotlight last year, leaving Arrow and television altogether. Though he remained ever-popular on social media (with 4 million-plus followers on Instagram), it wasn’t the same as seeing him on our television screens each week.  Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with Haynes to discuss where he’s at now, and why he decided to take some time away. The 27-year old said, “I asked to step away because I cared more about my mental and physical health than my career at the time. I’ve had terminal anxiety my entire life. Physically ill, fainting. I’m 27 years old, and I have an ulcer. I had to step back.” We can only imagine what a difficult decision that was for Haynes, but we also know how important self-care is, specially in such a highly publicized career with a strenuous schedule.

Still, Haynes break was not exactly as stress-free as he had hoped. Back in January, a Tumblr post about Hanyes sparked a bit of controversy. A fan dug up some old racy modeling pic of the actor and commented, that Haynes had a, “secret gay past”. In passing, Haynes coyly retorted, “Was it a secret?” That simple comment spread through the media like wildfire and at the time, Haynes simply wasn’t ready or willing to address it. He says now, “It was a complete shock. I wasn’t ready to be back in the headlines. I didn’t feel like I owed anyone anything. I think in due time, everyone has to make those decisions when they’re ready, and I wasn’t yet. But I felt like I was letting people down by not coming forward with the rest of what I should have said. People who are so judgmental about those who are gay or different don’t realize that acting 24 hours a day is the most exhausting thing in the world.”

In reality Hanyes has been out in his personal life for years, but in the hoopla surrounding Hollywood, he simply want to keep some parts of his life private. So, after taking some time to himself what is next for this hottie? While he’s looking into all aspects of entertainment, Haynes has also expressed his willingness to return to Arrow. He said, “Working for Greg was the greatest experience of my life, and when he offered me Arrow, it was a new beginning for me. I would love to do more. They know I love them. I’d go back in a second.”
