Craig Morgan cancels tour dates in wake of son’s death

Country singer Craig Morgan has cancelled a string of tour dates following the death of his teenage son.
The singer’s 19-year-old son Jerry Greer passed away in a boating accident at the weekend (10Jul16), and as Craig continues to grieve, he has axed 10 upcoming concerts scheduled throughout the rest of July (16).
His cancelled gigs included a mix of festival and headlining shows throughout the U.S., including stops in California, Florida, and Alabama. He is still scheduled to take the stage at the Clatsop County Fair in Astoria, Oregon on 4 August (16).
The family tragedy began on Sunday (10Jul16), when Greer went missing after he was involved in a tubing accident on Kentucky Lake in Tennessee. He and a friend were on the same tube being pulled behind a boat when a wave knocked them off. Jerry went under and did not resurface.
Rescue crews recovered his body on Monday evening (11Jul16), and officials are still investigating the incident. A representative for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has revealed Jerry’s life jacket was “not Coast Guard approved”.
The TWRA rep also told newspaper The Tennesseean that Jerry may have collided with another tuber prior to going into the water, saying, “(There are) early indications that he and a friend both fell off of the tube as the boat towing them was moving. There is a chance the two collided with one another before they hit the water.”
Since the news of Jerry’s death hit headlines, Craig’s fellow country singers have shared their condolences, with stars such as Brad Paisley, Martina McBride and Chely Wright all tweeting their support and prayers.
