Biography

Cristine Rose was a veteran television actress specializing in guest starring character roles, most often as mothers or town busybodies. Born January 31, 1951, she graduated with a degree in theatre from Stanford University. Beginning her career on-stage, Rose starred productions such as "Isn't It Romantic," "Three Acts of Recognition," and "The Marriage of Figaro." Her first television credit was as Jackie Kennedy in the TV-movie "The Trial of Lee Harvey Oswald" (ABC 1977). Bit parts in several well-known series followed, including hit sitcom "Kate and Allie" (CBS 1984-89); private eye drama "Spenser for Hire" (ABC 1985-88); Andy Griffith's legal drama "Matlock" (NBC, ABC 1986-1995); romantic comedy hit "Moonlighting" (ABC 1985-89); cult favorite "St. Elsewhere" (NBC 1982-88) and Angela Lansbury vehicle "Murder, She Wrote" (CBS 1984-1996). Her first regular series role came as the title character's mother in the short-lived television version of "Ferris Bueller" (NBC 1990-91). Another long stretch of single and recurring TV roles was salted with film roles including a supporting role in the indie drama "The Last Time I Committed Suicide," starring Keanu Reeves at Beat icon Neal Cassady, and the hit romantic comedy "What Women Want" (2000). In 2006, Rose began her highest profile role to date, co-starring as tightly-wound mother Angela Petrelli on "Heroes" (NBC 2006-2010). During this period, she also started another recurring role, playing the divorced and newly frisky mother of Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) on "How I Met Your Mother" (CBS 2005-2014).
