Daniel Kaluuya forgot to thank Ashley Walters during BAFTAs acceptance speech

Daniel Kaluuya has asked reporters to tweet his thanks to Ashley Walters after he forgot to mention the British actor in his BAFTAs acceptance speech on Sunday (18Feb18).
The Black Panther star was named the winner of the EE Rising Star Award, the only accolade voted for by the British public, triumphing over stars like Timothee Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Josh O’Connor and Tessa Thompson.
During his acceptance speech, Daniel thanked many people, including his fellow nominees, those who support funding for the arts in the U.K., some of his acting teachers, friends, his sister, and his mum.
When he got backstage, he realised he had missed someone out of his speech – Top Boy actor Ashley, who Daniel credits with helping him pursue his acting dreams.
“Ashley Walters. I want to say thank you for leading and inspiring me,” he said. “I saw him when I was younger (and I thought) he looks like me, I know where he’s from and I know this is possible. That’s the person I think I missed out. Please tweet him and tell him I said thanks.”
When asked by reporters how he will continue to build on his success, the Get Out star revealed he didn’t have a grand plan for his career.
“I’m winging this, every day. I have no idea, I don’t think like that,” he said. “I try and take every day as it goes and be a student first; keep learning, keep growing, keep reading, and then whatever comes my way comes my way. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t… I just want to keep grinding.”
The 28-year-old’s life has changed radically following the release of Get Out and Black Panther, but he insists he follows the advice he was given to just be himself and keep doing things he used to.
“There’s no parallel universe, I still roll around, I still go (to the Notting Hill) Carnival, I still go festivals, I still roll. It’s possible. You have to just do it,” he continued, although he admitted he used the taxi service Uber more now rather than use public transport to get around London.
