The step-niece of distinguished cinematographer Haskell Wexler, this attractive blonde came to the fore with her enjoyable performance as a mermaid in Ron Howard's comedy hit, "Splash" (1984). Hannah's striking features have been the cornerstone of her career--she was perfectly cast in a supporting role as a beautiful android in Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" (1982)--though she has latterly proved herself capable of less glamorous roles, as in "Steel Magnolias" (1989) and "At Play in the Fields of the Lord" (1991). "The Clan of the Cave Bear" (1986), however, was one such experiment which failed all around. Many of Hannah's more recent films, though, while trying to capitalize on her penchant for whimsy, have offered her little but standard leading lady duties ("Crazy People" 1990, "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" 1992).

Bonus Trivia

Sister Page Hannah reflects on the differences as children between herself and Daryl: "Asked about Daryl, I usually answer that she is just another sister. Daryl and I were quite different, and we still are. I've always been more outgoing. Daryl was a very private, rather dreamy person with her own room and a 'Please Knock' sign on the door and parakeets and hamsters running loose inside. I was more involved in the real world, working as an assistant teacher at school and babysitting. I was – and still am – amazed by babies. I always said I wanted to have six of my own. Daryl used to say I was sick." – from Cosmopolitan magazine, September 1990

In May 2001, Hannah won a judgment in a libel case against the British tabloid the Daily Mirror, which claimed she had missed rehearsals of "The Seven Year Itch" (2000) to attend a birthday party for her dog. In reality, the actress had traveled to Toronto for a promotional appearance for "Dancing at the Blue Iguana" (2000).

On June 13, 2006, Hannah was arrested on trespassing charges in Los Angeles's South Central Urban Garden; At the time of her arrest on trespassing charges, Hannah was perched 40 feet above the ground in a walnut tree, which she had been living in for three weeks. Hannah and about 25 immigrant farmers and their supporters were campaigning to save the 14-acre fruit and vegetable garden from destruction.

On Aug. 30, 2011, Hannah was arrested in front of the White House along with other environmental protesters who opposed a planned oil pipeline from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast. Hannah sat down on the sidewalk near the White House and refused orders from U.S. Park Police to move.

The actress was arrested again on Oct. 4, 2012 for protesting the creation of an oil pipeline in Texas. Hannah was charged with criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
