Lawless arrested for oil tanker protest

The former Xena: Warrior Princess star was among a group of seven campaigners who climbed aboard the vessel, which is docked in Taranaki, New Zealand, on Friday (24Feb12) to protest against oil drilling in the Arctic.

She vowed not to leave her spot on the ship’s drilling tower until the mission was called off, and insisted she expected to be taken into custody for her demonstration.

She told TMZ.com, “We know we’re going to be arrested … but … this is a moral decision for us.”

Police removed the group from the ship on Monday (27Feb12) and Lawless was taken to a police station to be processed along with her fellow activists, according to Australia’s ABC News.
