David Spade: ‘A few more minutes could have saved my sister-in-law from committing suicide’

Comedian David Spade is convinced his sister-in-law, designer Kate Spade, would have reversed her decision to commit suicide if she had just taken a few more minutes to reflect on her life.
The jewellery designer ended her life inside her New York City apartment last year (Jun18), and the Joe Dirt star has spent every day since thinking about what was going through her head at the time.
In a new interview, he claims Kate would have talked herself out of ending her life.
“I feel like Katy wouldn’t have done it, five minutes later,” he told The New York Times. “But these things happen and there’s no going back.”
“Katy was so funny,” he added. “I don’t know if agoraphobic is the word, but she didn’t like to mingle a lot; she’d have people at her house and she was always so funny.”
Kate, who sought treatment for depression and anxiety before she died at 55, left behind her 14-year-old daughter, Frances, with her husband and David’s brother, Andy.
