With puckered-red lips and blonde curls, Demi Lovato stopped by Good Morning America early Thursday to not only promote her latest single “Made in the U.S.A.” but also to announce that she is launching a mental illness scholarship fund.
Despite a rocky relationship with her father, Lovato says of her father’s death, “My father and I didn’t have the most ideal relationship, but at the end of the day, he’s still my dad and I grew up with him and he was a wonderful person and it’s difficult. I’m handling it okay.”
In memory of her biological father, Patrick Lovato, who passed away this past Saturday, Lovato revealed to Robin Roberts that she is creating the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program to benefit those struggling with mental illness, from which both her father and Demi herself have suffered. Lovato addresses how her estranged father grappled with functioning well in society, which happens to many people who battle with mental illnesses. Lovatio aims to help one person at a time with the assistance of Cast Recovery, a treatment center that Lovato has intimately worked with and has faith in.
Throughout the interview, Roberts applauds Lovato for always being so candid with the strifes she’s faced over the years. And we agree, we have the utmost praise for Lovato using her voice and influence to foster change. You go, girl!
