Biography

A model and actress who experienced a modicum of notoriety in broad comedies and B-movies, Denise Richards utilized her swimsuit figure and clichéd dumb model persona to carve out a thriving career in film and on television that lasted longer than most would have predicted. After gaining notice for the campy action thriller "Starship Troopers" (1997) and the steamy neo-noir "Wild Things" (1998), Richards was arguably the most unconvincing nuclear scientist ever as Christmas Jones in "The World is Not Enough" (1999), a role that tagged her as one of the worst Bong Girls of all time. From there, she enjoyed a few moderate box office successes, but was more steadily seen in guest appearances on TV sitcoms and melodramatic nighttime soaps where her limited acting range was not considered a detriment. Meanwhile, Richards became the focal point of ongoing tabloid coverage thanks to her ill-fated marriage to Charlie Sheen, which included reports of drug abuse, pornography addiction and domestic abuse on his part. Managing to break free for her sake and the sake of their two children, Richards pieced her life back together while successfully balancing being a single mother and steadily working actress.

Bonus Trivia

.

Richards sought a restraining order against her husband Charlie Sheen in April 2006, citing his use of death threats against her. In a 17-page court filing, Richards alleged that Sheen's behavior was increasingly erratic, making their marriage impossible, and that she feared for her safety and the safety of their two daughters. Further, Richards alleged that Sheen visited prostitutes and was addicted to gambling, prescription drugs, and pornography. He denied all the allegations.

.

On Nov. 8, 2006, officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were called to the River Rock Casino in Richmond, B.C., where Richards was making a movie. After seeing two photographers taking her picture from a nearby balcony, she confronted them, and threw their two laptop computers over the balcony. One laptop struck an 80-year-old woman in a wheelchair. The other laptop grazed the arm of a 91-year-old woman. Neither woman suffered serious injury, and no charges were pressed against Richards.

.

Richards decided to include her two daughters with Charlie Sheen in her confessional reality program "Denise Richards: It's Complicated" (E!), which premiered on May 26, 2008. Sheen deemed her plans "greedy, vain and exploitative." On Jan. 25, 2008, Richards won a court case against Sheen so that she can include her daughters on the show. When a judge rejected Sheen's request to block it, the latter urged fans to boycott it.
