Dido’s son helped her make key decisions on new album

Dido has spoken about the role her son played in putting together her new album.
The singer, real name Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O’Malley Armstrong, will release her fifth album Still on My Mind on 8 March (19), her first in six years.
In an interview with The Sun, the White Flag singer opened up about the “joyous experience” of making the record, revealing that her son Stanley, seven, played a central role in making a number of key decisions when piecing together the final product.
“He loves music and he really enjoyed it because it was made at home,” she gushed. “He helped me with everything from the order of the songs, to which photos he liked best.”
Dido, who released the album’s first single Give You Up earlier this year (Jan19), gave birth to Stanley in July 2011, shortly after her marriage to Knightley & Son writer Rohan Gavin.
Additionally, the Thank You singer highlighted Have to Stay as a song inspired by her unconditional love for her son, admitting that it “opened the floodgates” to further confessional songwriting.
“I was so resolute that I wasn’t writing a song about a child. It’s not a conflicted situation, so why would I write a song about it?” the 47-year-old asked. “But the idea came to me and I had to write.
“That song is so honest and about something so personal, it opened up everything.”
