Dominic Purcell ‘lucky to be alive’ after Prison Break accident

Actor Dominic Purcell broke his nose and needed 100 stitches after an iron bar fell on his head while filming U.S. TV series Prison Break.
The 46-year-old star was filming scenes for a new series of the revived show, which originally ran from 2005 to 2009, in Marrakech, Morocco, when the accident happened.
The star, who plays innocent death row inmate Lincoln Burrows in the returning drama, attempted to make light of Monday’s (30May16) terrifying incident on social media, but admitted he was “grateful to be alive” after being flown from Marrakech to Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city, for emergency surgery.
“Had a little accident on set,” he captioned an image showing his injuries posted on Instagram. “Haha! Back at work asap. Pays to have a thick skull when an iron bar falls on your #head!! Busting it open severely also broke my nose in two places. Haha. I got a free nose job out of it…… Stoked to be alive. All good.”
He went on to explain that his tough physique had saved him from more serious injury, adding, “Doc(tor) said I have an unusually tough tissue fibre that’s what saved me apparently. Thank god for my #Viking heritage hahaha !!!!”
He added, “I wish I could say I discovered something profound out of my near miss… nothing yet just a broken nose and a hundred stitches in my head.”
Repeating that he realised how close his near death experience was, Dominic continued: “Being airlifted out on a helicopter was another adventure I didn’t expect. Thought the b***dy thing was going to fall from the sky!!! What a day it was. Grateful to be alive.”
The English-born hard man thanked his girlfriend AnnaLynne McCord, who was visiting the set when the accident occurred, for looking after him and ensuring he received the correct treatment for his injuries.
“Thank god my love @theannalynnemccord was there when my unfortunate accident occurred on set,” he writes. “She went into raging #momma mode along with #christinanorthup and got me the right care.”
Providing there are no more major mishaps on set, Prison Break is set to return to U.S. TV screens in 2017.
