Dominic Sherwood apologises for using gay slur

Actor Dominic Sherwood has publicly apologised for his “disgusting” behaviour after uttering a gay slur in a Facebook Live video filmed with his Shadowhunters co-star Matthew Daddario.
Daddario was chatting to fans online on Tuesday (28Nov17) when Sherwood appeared in the background and greeted his pal using the derogatory term.
“What’s up, f**?,” he called out, using the shortened version of “f**got” to reference a homosexual man.
Daddario, who portrays gay character Alec Lightwood on the teen supernatural series, was clearly shocked by the use of the term and quickly responded by telling Sherwood, “Stop! Stop! I’m live.”
Hours later, Sherwood recorded an apology video for Shadowhunter viewers, insisting he regretted his actions.
“I’m speaking to all of you today to hold myself accountable, and not to make any excuses in any way,” he shared on Instagram. “The way I behaved today was disgusting and abhorrent, and Matt’s reaction was absolutely correct. It was one of disgust.”
He continued, “I think so many problematic phrases go unchallenged and they perpetrate negativity and hate and intolerance. And today I was a part of that and I am truly, truly sorry.”
Daddario stood by Sherwood’s side as he tried to make amends for his bad choice of language, and insisted the show’s entire cast and crew stands for “love and kindness”.
He added, “I just wanna say one thing, especially to the young people who watch this show, rely on this show. I want you to know that we support you tremendously.”
