Born in Toronto, actor Douglas Smith was raised in a showbiz family. His mother, a teacher, was a trained opera singer; his father was a movie producer; and his older brother, Gregory Smith, is also an actor. Although he has been acting since the mid-1990s, appearing in various television shows like "The X-Files," "The Outer Limits," "Blast from the Past" and the sixth installment in the "Trancers" series, Smith didn't land his breakthrough role until 2006. That year, he was cast in the HBO series "Big Love," playing the conflicted Ben Henrickson, the oldest son of Bill Paxton's character. He also guest-starred on the television shows "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "Crossing Jordan," "Joan of Arcadia," and the serial drama "Everwood," which co-starred his brother Gregory. When not filming for television or making movies, Smith performs music with the Los Angeles indie band His Orchestra.
