Drake Receives Billboard Music Awards’ Artist of the Decade

Drake shared a HollyGOOD moment with his son Sunday night at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. Drake was awarded the Artist of the Decade award at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards. The “Laugh Now Cry Later” rapper was honored for his decade-long hitmaking in the industry and his impact on the Billboard charts.

According to Billboard, “Since his debut, [Drake] has obliterated numerous chart records, including the most Hot 100 top 10s (45, to date) and overall entries (232).” Drake was Billboard’s Top Artist of the 2010s. Prior to this year’s ceremony, he held the title for most Billboard Music Awards (27). He added the award for Top Streaming Songs Artist to that collection on Sunday to his collection.

Drake shares award acceptance with his son

After a video was shown celebrating Drake’s artistry, the Toronto native approached the stage holding his son Adonis’ hand. The two shared an adorable father-son moment with Adonis hugging Drake’s leg after his father handed him the award.

Drake’s smile lit up the stage as he delivered his acceptance speech. He dedicated the award to his friends, longtime collaborators, peers, and his son. Drake shared that he doesn’t quite understand how he got to this point in his career saying, “For anyone watching this wondering how this happened… it’s being so unsure how you’re getting it done that you just kind of keep going in the hopes of figuring out the formula.”

Drake commended his fellow artists, saying “all of your decisions and the music you make really does have me tossing and turning at night trying to figure out what I should do next so thank you.” He then picked up Adonis and kissed him on the cheek before walking off stage.

Drake typically keeps his relationship with his 3-year-old son private, so viewers were excited to see the sweet exchange between the two of them during the BBMAs.

Drake and Pusha T’s rap beef

Beef is part of rap culture, and the appearance of Drake with his son brings up the conversation of his longstanding feud with rapper Pusha T. The two have been taking shots at each other in their music for years and in 2018, a diss track from Pusha T revealed a massive secret from Drake’s personal life.

Pusha T released “The Story of Adidon,” where he raps about Drake having a son, which was not yet public knowledge at the time. After Sunday night’s BBMAs, fans on Twitter commented on the possible correlation between Pusha T’s diss track and Drake’s role as a father.

Drew said that Pusha T “won” his and Drake’s beef due to the fact that the “The Story of Adidon” rapper trends anytime something is shared of Drake and his son.

One Twitter user joked that Pusha T’s diss track put pressure on Drake to present himself as a family man.

Isaiah tweeted that Pusha T would be applauding this moment.

This fan said that “The Story of Adidon” is the best diss track because without it, we wouldn’t know that Drake is a father.

Lia pointed out that the way Adonis hugged his father, Drake would have been an amazing dad even if Pusha T had never broken the news to the public.

After his 2021 Billboard Music Awards win, what’s next for Drake?

Drake most recently released an EP titled Scary Hours 2 featuring the songs “What’s Next,” “Wants and Needs (feat. Lil Baby)” and “Lemon Pepper Freestyle (feat. Rick Ross).” His highly-anticipated sixth studio album was set to be released in January 2021, but was postponed and is now expected for later this year, according to NME

Drake took to Instagram Friday to share a preview of a song that seems to be from his upcoming album Certified Lover Boy
