Actor Dustin Diamond is “confident” he will be cleared of criminal charges following a Boxing Day (26Dec14) stabbing incident, because he was acting in self-defense, according to his lawyer.
The former Saved by the Bell star was arrested in Wisconsin on Friday (26Dec14) and charged with felony second-degree recklessly endangering safety, disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon.
Following the arrest, Diamond claimed he only became involved after his girlfriend, Amanda Schutz, began fighting with another woman.
In a court video conference, he said, “There was a group of intoxicated people being rude and insulting.”
Diamond is due back in court later on Monday (29Dec14) to enter a plea, but his lawyer believes they will be able to have the charges dismissed.
A statement issued by Diamond’s attorney to ABC News reads, “Dustin has absolute faith in our legal system. We are confident that the truth will ultimately prevail.”
