Edward Herrmann Chose Cancer Documentary as Final Project

Late actor Edward Herrmann narrated a documentary on cancer while fighting his own battle with the disease.

The former Gilmore Girls star passed away on 31 December (14), and, knowing his days were numbered, the veteran actor chose documentary Cancer: The Emperor Of All Maladies to be his final project.

During the Television Critics’ Association’s Winter Press Tour on Monday (19Jan15), director Barak Goodman revealed Herrmann told the production team that he had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, but was adamant on going forward with the film.

Goodman said, “He was confident he could do this, and he felt it… appropriate it would be his final project.”

The filmmaker revealed that throughout the process of narrating for the film, he was receiving new forms of treatment, but Herrmann and his wife were “reconciled to the fact he wasn’t going to make it”, adding, “He did a magnificent job… I can’t tell you how hard he pushed to get this right.”

Cancer: The Emperor Of All Maladies is set to air in America in March (15).
