Elisabeth Hasselbeck Takes a Sick Day After Argument With Bill Maher

The View is known for its controversial topics and opinionated women, which can be thought of as a pretty deadly (and loud) combination, but things got a little too out of hand this week. On Tuesday’s show, the always-assertive Elisabeth Hasselbeck got into an extended argument with the show’s guest, comedian Bill Maher, about a comment he made in February involving her and CBS correspondent Lara Logan.

For those of you who don’t know, Logan was sexually assaulted in Tahrir Square earlier this year and Maher made a joke about the traumatic incident on his show, saying, “Now that Mubarak has released Lara Logan, he must put her intrepid hotness on a plane immediately. In exchange, we’ll send Elisabeth Hasselbeck.” The View host took great offense to the statement and decided to confront the comedian about it during the interview. She asked Maher if he would “say that again, if you’re so supportive of women?” and continued to berate him throughout the remainder of the show. She sarcastically told Maher, “You’re so brilliant, wow, I actually feel smarter sitting next to you,” to which he replied, “Really? I feel like I’m in high school sitting next to you.”

But the whole ordeal possibly had a bigger impact on Hasselbeck than she originally let on. A representative for show confirmed that she went home sick this morning — just a day after the confrontation took place. The rep said, “Elisabeth was here this morning in studio and was scheduled to be on the live show, but she went home because she wasn’t feeling well.” Hasselbeck herself even took to Twitter to complain about her ailments and is supposedly suffering from a “major migraine.”

Maher, on the other hand, appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman and seemed to find the whole thing quite comical, saying, “It’s funny, I am never in the role of the victim…It was like, thank you, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, for making me look good!” When Dave asked what caused the unexpected tension, Maher quipped, “She had some bug up her ass.” But the comedian turned serious (well, as serious as he gets) and said, “Look, I’m only kidding. I like her a lot. We have this relationship on TV where we hate each other…it makes the sex hotter.”

I’ve got to be on Team Maher for this one. Although he can definitely cross the line at times, Hasselbeck should know better than to think she’s tough enough to go up against him. She has three kids — she should know a bit about picking her battles.
