Even though the end of summer is upon us (tears) there’s still a lot to look forward to in the upcoming fall months, like this year’s Emmys. Great shows, great outfits, great acceptance speeches (hopefully) — what’s not to love? And we’re certainly guaranteed to be fully entertained by this year’s host, the ever-hilarious Jane Lynch. While Ms. Lynch is sure to do a fabulous job on her own, she’s hoping to bring in some reinforcements to solidify that the show’s level of awesomeness heads in a New Direction — so to speak. That’s right, all of you Gleeks out there get excited because Sue Sylvester doesn’t want to be the only Glee member gracing the stage, she wants the rest of the musical gang from McKinley High to help her out during the broadcast.
It looks like her wish is going to come true. In an interview with reporters yesterday the Glee star stated, “As of now, we’re still putting together those pieces, I pitched a couple of ideas for the Glee cast, so I bet there will be an appearance.” Nothing would make us happier, or should I say more full of Glee? She also revealed that the creative team behind the popular Fox series might be lending their expertise by writing some of her host material. Lynch explains, “We’ve kind of been hunkering down with what the show is going to look like and what will be in it, but we will be reaching out [to the ‘Glee’ team] very, very soon.” How exciting and I’m sure they wouldn’t mind writing in a part for the rest of the cast as well.
When asked what kind of tips she thinks her character Coach Sylvester would give her on hosting the show, the actress laughed saying, “Somehow find a way to give all the awards to yourself!” That sounds pretty accurate and right up Sue’s self-absorbed alley (but we love her for it). Don’t expect to see the normal Sue wardrobe up on stage, however. Lynch comments on her outfits for that night, revealing “When people first asked me, when I first got the gig, if I would be changing my dress every time I came out, I was like, ‘Absolutely not.’ But I will be changing my dress every time I come out.” Will the infamous track suit make an appearance at all that night? We’ll have to wait and see.
Ultimately Jane’s goal though is to make this a night to remember, saying “You want to make a splash, we want it to be special. It’s such a coveted spot. It’s like the biggest evening in television… You want to do it justice, I know I do. I’m humbled by it. I’m staying in the moment, I’m knocking out what I need to knock out. I’m doing my best for each moment of it. You take it a piece at a time, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I hope it’s really a splash.” I have no doubt she’ll be the hostess with the mostess — Sue wouldn’t settle for anything less!
The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Sunday, September 18 at 8 PM ET/5PM PT on Fox. Don’t miss it!
