Children’s author Enid Blyton is set to be honoured with a commemorative plaque in the English town she called home for 30 years. The London-born writer, known for her popular The Famous Five and The Secret Seven adventure series, lived in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire from 1938 until her death in 1968, and now local campaigners have succeeded in landing “lasting recognition” for the novelist.
Her house, Green Hedges, was demolished in 1973 and a new housing development built in its place was named Blyton Close, and now a tribute plaque, commissioned by local council members, will be unveiled in the garden in front of the Beaconsfield Town Hall in the coming weeks to mark the 75th anniversary of her arrival in the neighbourhood.
