Eric Stonestreet blasts social media ‘cowards’

Eric Stonestreet doesn’t understand cyberbullying.
The 44-year-old actor plays Cameron Tucker on hit U.S. TV show Modern Family, which also stars Sofia Vergara, Ariel Winter and Sarah Hyland. Appearing in the series means he is sometimes the victim of catty online comments but not nearly as often as his stunning co-stars, who are regularly trolled on social media.
While the girls do their utmost to ignore the remarks, Eric admits he has no idea why people take their time to post such hateful comments.
“It’s the girls that get it the hardest, Ariel, on our show, and Sarah and Sofia,” Eric told FOX411. “It’s rough, and people are really super mean, and they’re cowards on social media.
“I don’t understand it. If you won’t say it to my face, why would you say it on Twitter and Instagram?”
Ariel in particular was targeted after she wore a dress at the SAG Awards back in January(16) which failed to conceal the scars from her breast reduction operation.
She wrote on Instagram at the time: “Guys there is a reason I didn’t make an effort to cover up my scars! They are part of me and I’m not ashamed of them at all. :)”
The 18-year-old has made a name for herself as being very outspoken about body image.
After Kim Kardashian caused a stir with a nude selfie she posted earlier this year (16), Ariel was one of the people to step forward and defend the reality star. Chloe Grace Moretz had some differing views however, but said in an interview with Glamour magazine this week that she had no intention of “sl*t shaming” with her remarks.
Ariel once again took to Instagram on Wednesday (04May16) to comment on Chloe’s latest interview, writing: “Many have asked about my opinion on a certain interview.… . All I’m going to say is this: If you take a photo in which you feel CONFIDENT about yourself and think it spreads a positive image, then GO FOR IT. The ‘background’ doesn’t matter- what matters is the message you are putting out there is true to what YOU believe in- not what anyone else says about YOU.”
