Fede Alvarez confirms he is directing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel

Fede Alvarez has confirmed he will direct The Girl In The Spider’S Web.
The Evil Dead filmmaker told comingsoon.net The Girl in the Spider’s Web will indeed be his next project, ending speculation that he’s taking on the job. News broke at the beginning of November (16) that Alvarez would be taking over at the helm, following in David Fincher’s footsteps. The film studios are yet to confirm the news.
Rooney Mara will be reprising her role of Lisbeth Salander, though it’s unknown if Daniel Craig will be back as Mikael Blomkvist. The original 2011 film earned Rooney her first Oscar nomination. It was nominated for a total of five Oscars, winning the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Film Editing.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web is actually the fourth novel in the Millennium series, meaning studio bosses have elected to miss out The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. The fourth instalment was also written by Swedish writer David Lagercrantz, following original author Stieg Larsson’s death in 2004.
Speaking about the story, screenwriter Steven Knight recently explained to Collider that while the book is sometimes thought of as a standalone in the series, The Girl in the Spider’s Web is not a franchise reboot but sequel.
“It can’t be anything other than a sequel, but a couple of books have been skipped, so it is different, in that sense. It’s really taking a very strong central character and thinking, how do you execute this? It’s quite different,” he said.
Swedish actress Noomi Rapace played the role of Lisbeth in the Swedish cinema adaptations of the books, which followed the series in chronological order up until the Hornets’ Nest.
