Geoffrey Owens acting up a storm after grocery store photo drama

Former The Cosby Show star Geoffrey Owens’ worst day has become a big blessing – the actor, who fell on hard times, has filmed three jobs in five weeks.
Owens hit the headlines at the end of August (18) when a shopper at a Trader Joe’s store in New Jersey spotted him bagging groceries and posted photos online.
The drama forced Geoffrey to apologise to his embarrassed son, a college student, but the bad day quickly turned good as stars like Tyler Perry and Nicki Minaj offered the actor their support – and Tyler offered him a job on a TV show.
Since then, Owens has been jetting from set to set filming TV and movie appearances.
“The last four or five weeks have been crazy,” he tells Access Live. “I went from doing an episode of NCIS: New Orleans (and) I went for literally for a few hours before flying to Atlanta and worked for a week for Tyler Perry – I did 11 scenes for him (on TV show The Haves and the Have Nots) in three days. And then I went directly to Los Angeles and filmed my first day of (movie) Fatale.
“I went back to Jersey… (where) I did a church appearance, I did a concert appearance, I did a reading of Shakespeare at the Public Theater, as well as teaching my Shakespeare class. I flew back a few days ago to L.A. and did the last two days of my filming of Fatale.”
Owens admits he’s busy but he hasn’t turned down anything.
“There are other offers in the works,” he says. “There are some other things that could happen.”
And the actor owes much of his new-found success to Perry, who was one of the first big names to reach out and offer Owens his support: “He did a very bold, almost foolhardy… generous thing that day, making that offer,” he adds. “I think it’s wonderful what he did.
“It was really fun to work with him. He works really fast and furious in a way I’ve never worked before, but I was ready for it.”
Geoffrey hasn’t turned his back on his local Trader Joe’s, where he was working to make ends meet in between jobs when he was exposed, revealing he has been back: “I’ve been back a few times and it’s nice to go back.
“My working experience there was really wonderful – the 15 months I worked there… The people were very generous and very nice. They’re kinda thrilled for me… That’s where I do my shopping.”
