George Clooney Honored As U.N. Messenger of Peace

George Clooney has been named a United Nations Messenger of Peace in honor of his humanitarian work.

Clooney, who is a longtime campaigner on behalf of refugees in the Darfur region of Sudan, joins fellow actor Michael Douglas and musician Yo-Yo Ma in accepting the honor.

U.N. spokesman Michele Montas says, “(Clooney is being) recognized for focusing public attention on crucial international political and social issues.”

Last month, Clooney and his Ocean’s Thirteen costar Don Cheadle were awarded the Peace Summit Award at the World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates in Rome, for raising awareness about the genocide in Darfur.
