Gloria Estefan refused to perform during ‘high stress’ Super Bowl Halftime Show

Gloria Estefan turned down Jay-Z’s offer to perform at the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show for a third time because it’s too stressful.

Gloria played the halftime show twice in 1992 and 1999, and had been rumored to be returning to the stage as her hometown of Miami, Florida is set to host the event.

However, the star and her musician husband, Emilio, recently told Entertainment Tonight that she was approached for the gig, but politely turned it down.

“JAY-Z called me and said, ‘You know something? I’m coming to Miami,’ and Gloria said, ‘I’m not going to the Super Bowl. I don’t want to do it!’” Emilio said.

Gloria added: “Come on – those high-stress things? That’s a high stress thing. I’ve done them. I’ve done two.”

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will take the stage at the sporting spectacular in February 2020 and JAY-Z’s label Roc Nation – which is producing the Halftime Show in conjunction with the NFL – are reportedly eyeing up a number of guest stars to appear alongside them.

Addressing rumors of a guest appearance, the Here We Are singer insisted: “What would be the need? You already have two amazing headliners. And, I’ve been blessed to have already done it twice. It’s good.”

Gloria added she was “thrilled” for the two headliners, and has a personal connection with each of them – while Emilio signed Shakira, the singer co-wrote her first English crossover hit, Whenever, Wherever. She also wrote Jennifer’s anthem, Let’s Get Loud.
