Harry Belafonte and Geena Davis land Muhammad Ali Awards

Singer HARRY BELAFONTE and actress GEENA DAVIS are to be honoured for their activism at the 2015 Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards.
Belafonte, who was heavily involved in the American civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, will receive a lifetime achievement prize for his contributions, with organisers describing the Calypso singer as a man who “exposed America to world music and spent his life challenging and overturning racial barriers across the globe.”
Oscar winner Davis will receive the Humanitarian of the Year Award for her work promoting gender equality.
The prizes have been given out by the Muhammad Ali Centre, which celebrates the boxing icon’s life and ideals, since 2013.
The 2015 event will be held in Ali’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky on 19 September (15).
