Hilarie Burton defends new mother Diane Kruger for drinking Champagne

Hilarie Burton has defended new mother Diane Kruger for having a drink, after pictures of the actress enjoying a glass of Champagne sparked a flurry of criticism online.
One critic copied Hilarie and her husband, Diane’s partner Norman Reedus’ The Walking Dead co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan, into her tweet, which read: “Dear @JDMorgan @HilarieBurton. Can you say to Aunt Diane that after a birth she can’t drink alcohol (bc breastfeeding). I think you both as great parents you know what I mean. I know that uncle Norman need a drink bc of her (Diane). But that poor New born baby (sic).”
It was accompanied by one of the snaps of Diane indulging in a glass of fizz.
But Hilarie, who shares two children with Jeffrey, didn’t take too kindly to the troll and hit back: “What a gross thing for you to say. You should be ashamed. I like Diane. You must feel really awful about yourself to attack someone you don’t know. I suggest looking inward, lady. Get a life.”
Hilarie’s clap back was praised by Jeffrey, who replied: “Booom. Shut that s**t down.”
It was reported earlier this month that Diane and Norman had welcomed their first child together, but the highly-private couple has yet to reveal any details about the tot’s gender or name.
It’s not the first time a celebrity has attracted criticism for drinking alcohol shortly after giving birth. Country singer Jessie James Decker was attacked by fans after sharing a picture of herself breastfeeding son Forrest, while apparently drinking a glass of wine. However, mother-of-three Jessie later hit back at the remarks, telling Us Weekly she refused to apologise for the snap.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the U.S. recommends that not drinking alcohol is the “safest option” for breastfeeding mothers, but adds that moderate alcohol consumption (up to one standard drink per day) is not known to be harmful to the infant. According to the U.K’s National Health Service (NHS), there is “some evidence” that regularly drinking more than two units of alcohol a day while breastfeeding may affect a baby’s development.
