House of Pain’s Danny Boy arrested

House of Pain rapper Danny Boy is facing a charge of assault following an arrest in New York City.
The Jump Around star, real name Daniel O’Connor, was out with a friend, an off-duty police officer, in Brooklyn on Sunday (20Mar16), when they became involved in an altercation with pedestrian Steven Cooper, who was almost hit by their car as it rolled past a stop sign.
According to authorities, Cooper hurled an object at the vehicle, prompting O’Connor to get out of the car to confront the man. The road rage incident quickly escalated as the two men allegedly traded punches on the sidewalk. The rapper’s cop pal tried to break up the brawl, but got hit in the face as he intervened.
“The off-duty lieutenant was attempting to defuse the argument and, in doing so, was punched in the face by Mr. Cooper, causing pain and swelling,” New York Police Department spokesman Sergeant Brendan Ryan told the New York Post.
Officers were called to the scene, and both O’Connor and the pedestrian were taken into custody and charged with assault.
O’Connor, 47, also had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest for a prior minor offence, while Cooper, 42, was slapped with a count of unlawful possession of marijuana, according to the publication.
