How Hollywood celebs are celebrating Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year!

First of all, what is Lunar New Year?

Lunar New Year 2021 is today, February 12th. It’s called Lunar New Year because, as Oprah Magazine describes, “it marks the first new moon of the lunisolar calendars traditional to many East Asian countries.”

2021 is the Year of the Ox, according to the Chinese zodiac. Traditions vary depending on your family and culture. To get a deeper understanding of this holiday, listen to this Asian Glow Up podcast episode where the hosts talk all about Lunar New Year, “from the Chinese zodiac to the right foods to eat and even our family’s superstitions surrounding the holiday.”

Now more than ever, in light of anti-Asian hate crimes, it’s important to recognize the meaning and importance of this holiday for Asian-Americans (in addition to following and amplifying the voices of influential Asian-American activists like @amandangocnguyen on Instagram).

That’s why we’re celebrating Lunar New Year by sharing how Hollywood celebs are celebrating Lunar New Year in 2021.
