Among his awards are a Writers Guild of Canada Best Screenwriter Awards, the Elliot Norton Prize and a lifetime achievement from B'nai B'rith.

When asked to teach a playwrighting course at City College of New York, he listed Harvard as his alma mater, despite having never attended college there. Upon discovering that the credit was false, Horovitz was fired.

In early interviews, he said that his father had been a lawyer, but later admitted that he had worked as a truck driver.

Appeared as Dr. Berkowitz in the TV adaptation of "North Shore," and as Louis Schurr in "James Dean."
