J. California Cooper dead at 82

Author J. California Cooper has died, aged 82. The playwright passed away in Seattle, Washington on Saturday (20Sep14). The cause of death had not been revealed as WENN went to press.
Cooper won Black Playwright of the Year in 1978 for Strangers, and she also wrote a short story called Funny Valentine which was turned into a 1999 movie staring Alfre Woodard and Loretta Devine.
Homemade Love, another of Cooper’s short stories, was awarded the 1989 American Book Award.
The author moved from California to Seattle last year (13) to spend time with her family.
