Jack Johnson composes soundtrack to new pollution documentary

Singer Jack Johnson has scored a new documentary about plastic pollution in the world’s oceans.
The Smog of the Sea, which is available to stream free online, follows a group of scientists and surfers, including Johnson himself, as they collect data on the fine plastic particles damaging aquatic ecosystems.
“Some of it (plastic) is from cruise ships dumping, some of it’s from fishing fleets, a lot of it is blown from land sources, or things are shipped to other countries that are not set up to recycle like we can,” Johnson tells Rolling Stone.
And he insists everyone should be worried – because the pollution is a direct threat to human health.
“Smaller fish that have ingested micro plastics end up in the food chain,” he explains.
Meanwhile, Jack is also working on his first album in four years, but admits the great surfing conditions in his native Hawaii have been keeping him from the studio.
“The waves have been really good this winter over here,” he smiles. “Every time the waves are good, I have trouble getting into the studio.”
