Jack White aiming to make music history in space

Jack White’s Third Man Records label will attempt to make history this weekend by playing the first vinyl record in outer space.
The former White Stripes frontman will celebrate his company’s seventh anniversary on Saturday (30Jul16), and as part of the festivities, he has teamed up with former NASA boffin Kevin Carrico and officials at the organisation SATINS (Students and Teachers in Near Space) to create The iCarus Craft, which will be the vessel taking the turntable into space.
White will personally launch the “space proof” record player containing a gold-plated 12-inch master of Carl Sagan’s A Glorious Dawn, marking the label’s three millionth record pressed.
To celebrate the vinyl launch, parties will be held at Third Man Records offices in Detroit, Michigan and Nashville, Tennessee.
